Jamaica
It is amazing traveling by ship because you can see the approaching country’s topography, size and shape. The mountains cast dramatic shadows in the early morning light while other outlying parts are drenched in light. approachingJamaica Braco horseback riding through countryside, in warm ocean bareback ocean swimming. Finn rode on Reggae Boy, Leo on Tashina, Kelly on Stitch and Joe on Buttercup. Along the way, family of goats, bougainvillea, morning glory, petunias, roses and yellow butterflies. Turkey buzzards circling overhead. White egrits sliding off cow backs to grassy fields. Sky and ocean ya mon. Flag of vegetation, sunshine and the color of the people, of hardship, of night.

Houndstooth shells and hermit crabs with homes to rent. Takes ten to twenty years to complete construction of a home for most people because they build as they have money so island is covered with abandoned looking homes. They do not have problems but rather situations, that is why everything is “no problem”. One situation involves the rampant mongoose population. They brought them to take care of the rats in the rice fields and now they are eating eggs of animals indiginous to island making many snakes engangered. There are 17 species of frogs and tons of lizards. The country is the size of CT. Three million people. 80 percent literacy. The main exports are rum, sugar, bananas and yams.

There was a visual journaling workshop which showed various ways to document trip through drawing, photography, graphs, charts ( like longitude and latitude).
Quote from poet David Whyte: Velocity is not the answer to complexity.
Observation: The interior journey often juxtaposes and intersects the exterior one.
