Sandra Day O’Connor
L&F learned about the first female Supreme Justice of the United States who is a passenger on the MV EXPLORER and teaching a class. We learned the fact that she came from Texas and could not get a job depsite graduating Stanford magnum cum laude with a BA and JD in just FIVE YEARS! She worked her first job for free with no office and had to share a desk with the office secretary -but would not be held back. She met and became friends with Burger and Rehnquist, who helped her on her way up. She is arguably the most important chief justice in the last century for her work on championing the rights of the individual, of affirmative action for minorities and Roe vs. Wade for women’s rights.
